The Alexander Technique

The first major trial into Alexander Technique was published in the British Medical Journal in 2008. The researchers found that after a year's treatment those with chronic or recurrent back pain were helped considerably more than those receiving massage or doing exercise. Professor Little who ran the study said that "Alexander technique taught by registered teachers provides long term benefits".

The Alexander Technique teaches how to hold the body correctly and how to move correctly by stimulating muscles that are often underused and not overworking others. By correcting these imbalances a better posture is maintained while sitting, standing, walking and in general movement. By using the body correctly, pain and discomfort are diminished or disappear completely over time.

The Alexander Technique is particularly popular with actors, singers and performers, but it is of course valuable for everybody.
