Environmental & Food Allergy Testing Procedures
Some practitioners test for food allergy through a very limited diet such as turkey and pears with or without rice. Others allow the patient to eat a variety of foods that they rarely eat. A rotation diet is another option. Permited foods are separated into four groups. The foods in each group are the only ones that can be eaten on any single day, so four days separate each type of food. Another option is to leave out of the diet the most commonly allergic foods that people react to. Compliance is always a problem using these methods.
Blood tests offer an alternative to dietary restriction. Two blood tests are reasonably accurate. Cytotoxic testing looks at whether white blood cells react with each food extract. Under best condtions this is considered to be up to 80% accurate. The new automated version of this test uses a haematology analyser and is more accurate than previous methods of carrying out this test. The second blood test is called the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assay. This tests each food for IgG antibody reactions. It is claimed to be reproducible up to 95%.
Another test for all allergies, food and environmental, is called Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique or NAET. For an explanation of this test please visit Maria Esposito's website www.nutritionhealth.net
