Homeopathy Remedies

The aim of homeopathy is to use gentle medication to stimulate the body's self-healing mechanisms. The homeopath chooses a remedy for the patient that would produce the same symptoms the patient is experiencing if given on a regular basis to a healthy person. This principle is called 'like cures like'.

There are a range of doses used in homeopathy but they only contain a minute amount of the active substance. The original substance is continually diluted to the dose required. At each stage of dilution the remedy is vigorously shaken (succussed) to fully energise (potentise) it. The more it is diluted the more powerful it seems to become.

Homeopathy was developed Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843). In his view illness came about when the intelligence or 'vital force' of the body met a stressor it couldn't resist. People's suscepibility to illness will vary for each person. Symptoms presented give valuable clues as to the individuality of each patient.

An initial visit with a homeopath usually lasts an hour to an hour and a half. A full picture is required of the patient's physical, emotional and psychological health. Only after this interview can the remedy be chosen. Follow up appointments will be needed to assess progress.
